Well, It's March

And I'm in Athens! But before I talk about that I'll go ahead and talk about yesterday first.
So Steen and I woke up at around 9:00 to go to the Colosseum. The line for tickets was ridiculously long, even though it was a rainy and drab day. But since we already had our pass from the day before, we got to skip that line and go on in! It was still pretty crowded, though. But it was a cool place. And it was fun to walk around it and all that jazz. I bought a cool mug as a souvenir for myself. But the rain made the whole experience kind of drab. Rome is dirty anyway, but the rain made it worse. Ugh. My shoes, guys. They're so sad now. Anyway, so after the Colosseum we went to the St. Callixtus Catacombs where there are several Christian martyrs buried, as well as some early bishops and popes. It took forever to find the bus stop to get there though. We went up one street, then back down, then up the right street, but on the wrong side of the road, and had to wait thirty minutes for it to come. In the rain. Again with the waiting for the bus in the rain thing.
Sadly there were no pictures allowed in the catacombs. But they were really cool. It was kinda funny though, because our tour guide was going through the symbols that were found in the tombs, one of which was the Jesus Fish. Which I already knew the history behind that, but it was funny to hear it on a tour, ya know? It's just something I always saw at Lifeway and Mardel. I mean, it was also cool that Christians have kept the symbol for so long, but still. It was the Jesus Fish, and it was on a tour. After the catacombs we walked around a lot again looking for the bus, which we had to wait for again, except this time there wasn't really a side walk. Just enough of a shoulder for you to not be too close to the road. And more puddles and rain and splashing happened. At this point Steen and I were so done with Rome. We were ready to go back to the hotel and just spend the evening in our room eating sandwiches and chips and not dealing with the city anymore.
Then we woke up this morning. In case you didn't know, this was the plan: Wake up, go to airport, meet Abbey at airport, get to Athens, take bus to ferry, take ferry to Mykonos and get to our pretty apartment place. This is what ended up happening: Steen and I got to the airport and through security in time to sit at our gate for 30 minutes. During this time, Abbey was no where to be found. We checked facebook, waited, and looked. No Abbey. So we were a little concerned at this point, ya know, because our friend was missing, but we had to get on the flight, so we were hoping that she'd get in touch with us by the time we landed. As soon as we entered Athens airport I got on the wifi and read a message from her that said that she had missed her flight due to some complications, and she was on another flight that would get in at around 9. This was only a problem because the ferry left at 5:30 for Mykonos. So Steen booked a last-minute hotel (which ended up being an hour from the airport) and we're going to go to the island tomorrow! Either in the morning or the evening. We don't know yet. Personally, I just want to get there. This is supposed to be the relaxation do-nothing part of our trip. But ya know the first rule of traveling, "Nothing goes as planned."Luckily the people here in Athens are nice enough to help us out. Also this city is so much cleaner than Rome. Like oh my goodness. It's great. I also really want some strawberries because I walked by a fruit stand that was selling the reddest, most delicious smelling strawberries I've ever seen. I'll get more of a feel for Athens once we're here later in the week, but for now I just want to do nothing. We still have to go meet Abbey at the airport though, so no rest rest yet. I keep going back and forth between really missing home, and really missing France. I never thought I'd miss France like I do. It's cool though. I have a lot of mail to send when I get back.
Anyway we gotta go soon. AND IT'S STILL RAINING. I did not visit Greece for rain. I get more than enough of that in France. But whatever. Until next time!
